The Prospect Brighton Conservation Park represents Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ commitment to restoring harmony between people and nature at a time when mangrove preservation has become both an ecological and social priority. Launched through a phased opening, the park marks a significant step toward the restoration, protection, and sustainable management of one of the nation’s most threatened natural ecosystems.
Designed as a living laboratory, the park is more than a green space. It serves as a cornerstone for coastal resilience, environmental education, and innovation in conservation practices. Central to its mission is the protection and rehabilitation of mangrove ecosystems that are vital to coastal stability and biodiversity.
Historically abundant along Saint Vincent’s coastline, mangroves have been steadily reduced due to urban development, pollution, and climate change. The park actively supports the reintroduction of locally extinct species such as red and black mangroves, while safeguarding existing species including white mangroves and mangrove button. These coastal forests provide natural protection against erosion and storm surges, filter pollutants before they reach coral reefs and seagrass beds, and create critical habitats for fish, birds, crustaceans, and nesting sea turtles.
Purpose-built, elevated walkways allow visitors to experience the mangrove environment without disrupting its delicate root systems. This thoughtful design minimizes human impact while promoting environmental awareness and offering opportunities to observe wildlife, including migratory and endemic species, in their natural habitat.
