The Ministry of Tourism purpose to advance the positioning of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a diverse, globally competitive tourism destination through effective planning, development, management, marketing and sustainable use of the natural resources and heritage sites and attractions of the country.

Vision Statement

To establish St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the authentic Caribbean destination where development is in harmony with the preservation of social values, the natural environment and the attainment of economic goals.

Objectives for 2009 and beyond

The objectives of the Ministry of Tourism are as follows:

  • To intensify our Tourism public awareness programme, aimed specifically at improving the knowledge and understanding of citizens about the importance of the tourism industry to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • To continue the collaborative public/private sector approach to tourism development, management and marketing.
  • To provide the enabling environment for a holistic integrated approach to tourism development.
  • To continue the collaborative work with our Public Relations Companies with respect to stimulating and motivating the potential traveler in major source markets to visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • To further develop the environment within which greater linkages are established between tourism and other sectors of the national economy.
  • To create mechanisms that would ensure that all tourism development programmes and projects are sustainable.
  • To create a quality tourism product in St. Vincent and the Grenadines by implementing a system for licensing and monitoring in the tourism/hospitality sectors.
  • To develop a greater awareness and knowledge of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in select markets.
  • To review the current data collection method with a view to implementing a system which provides accurate data, while implementing the use of Tourism Satellite Accounting in the analysis of such data, so as to ensure that planning and development in the sector is carried out in an efficient and sustainable manner.
  • Implement and enhance programme with Total Vacations aimed at further developing the diving sector and other marine tourism activities.
  • To expand the reach of human resource development opportunities to a wider cross section of persons whose work impact directly or indirectly on the tourism sector.
  • To continue to assist in Community Tourism Development through linkages with Community Tourism Associations.
